Anna Calvi - Empowering Art Rock

Sombre lyrics and a powerful voice are the calling card of this gothically-orientated performer who has been nominated for a handful of music's most prestigious awards, including the Mercury Prize and a Brit. Citing an unusual range of influences - including anything from Debussy to Nina Simone - this natural performer is admired for her attention-grabbing guitar solos and sultry singing.

Anna Calvi Biography

This striking singer was exposed to an eclectic array of sounds during her youth - everything from Maria Callas to The Rolling Stones. After taking up violin, Anna was soon writing her own material, with 20th century classical composers influencing her guitar playing. An unofficial student of Brian Eno, it didn't take long for the solo singer to be snapped up by a record label and she used YouTube to promote her talents during a series of inventive Attic Sessions covers. Following stints supporting Nick Cave and Arctic Monkeys on tour, the singer-songwriter released debut hit 'Jezebel' in 2010 and followed up with her eponymous debut album. A critically acclaimed European success, the album fared well in charts across the continent, impressing audiences with her mature songwriting.

Her performances are not only appealing to the ears but also a feast for the eyes, with the singer adopting a flamenco-inspired look with her trademark red blouse.
